Ctrl-Cut - free software laser cutting for freedom of choice and a superior result

Kurzbeschreibung

Ctrl-Cut is a free software driver for laser cutters. It offers freedom of choice (CAD, OS), superior results and reduced job cost. The talk will demonstrate how laser cutters work and the challenges and techniques involved in achieving those goals.

Zusätzliche Informationen zum Vortrag

Depending on the preferences of the committee I am willing to hold the talk in either German or English. I will explain the principal mechanism and problems involved in laser cutting and provide unique insights into the inner workings of laser cutters. I will also give a short overview over the history of the project and the obstacles overcome – outlining the techniques used for reverse engineering the proprietary software as well as the mechatronics (keywords: sniffing, computer vision, microscope, laser cutter simulation, firmware inspection). Followed by a side-by-side comparison of a proprietary solution and Ctrl-Cut.
