WTF

The time has advanced and meanwhile most videos are stored on HDDs in a homeserver instead of handling around with DVDs or BlueRays. For this reason the videos need to be ripped/converted on a hard disc. This is a open lecture where several people will share their experience with ffmpeg aka avconv, Mplayer, handbrake and other video editing tools with you.

Technical

Technical basics of videos like GOP-Group of Pictures, frame rates, codecs and containers
Which data/tracks can you find in containers and how to manipulate them
Ripping adjustments and scaling of videos - DVDs of former times have and 4:3 scaling
What criteria do I have to keep in mind in order to have a reasonable quality at efficient size of the video
Remove fragments of Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) television from videos
