I found this package at the Whiteboard. It said, grow your own waterside of doom plant (Sarracenia purpurea). The package dates back to 2001 and cost 69,- austrian shillings back then which is equivalent to 5.01€ (disregarding inflation since then). EAN 5015811002896

What else could we do other than try growing this plant?

Not suitable for children under 5 years.

Manufactured by Vesutor Ltd., Marringdean Road, Billingshurst, West Sussex RH14 9EH. The company seems to still exist but I couldn't find a website link.

Every insect's fate is sealed when it rides the Waterslide of Doom! The Waterslide of Doom is a unique insect eating plant with a fascinating way of trapping its prey. Insects are attracted to the deep flumes by sweet smelling nectar, but on entering to enjoy it, they slide to the bottom into a pool where they drown and are slowly digested.

How to start Put the tablet of compressed moss in a cup filled one-third with warm water (rain or distilled is best for insect eating plants). The tablet will swell up and, when it is fully saturated, crumble it into the put until full. Sprinkle the seed evenly over the top and gently firm down. Sarracenia seeds germinate best if the winter conditions of their natural habitat are first imitated. Therefore cover loosely with a clear plastic bag and place wiring a refrigerator (not freezer) for approximately four weeks. Remove and place the pot in a small saucer part filled with water, continuing to cover with the plastic bad and keep in a warm bright place (ideally 70°F, 20°C) out of strong sun. As soon as the first seedlings appear (in about 6-8 weeks) remove the bag. Keep in good light, tipping up the saucer with more water before it becomes dry. Do not water from the top of the pot, or apply fertilizers or allow the moss to dry out. Individual pitchers will form at a very early stage, and the the young plants should be transferred to larger (3") pots before they become overcrowded. Pitchers will die back in winter, with new growth and large flowers forming in the spring.

Dear Diary of Doom:

2014-03-07(1) Found another Waterslide of Doom enthusiast on the interwebs! Somebody should totally reply to that forum posting!

2014-03-07(0) According to instructions: Watered tab and put into pot, sprinkled seeds on top. Labelled and put into Metafridge. This is to simulate the plant's natural habitat winter. (according to the instructions).
