Use Minishift (OpenShift cluster inside a VM) or play around with OpenShift in your browser
OpenShift Online has a small free-tier plan (no credit-card required!). Docs specifically for Online (with a walkthrough for your first app).
More Kubernetes focused is The Children's Illustrated Guide to Kubernetes (YouTube Bedtime Story version) but that doesn't matter because OpenShift is built upon it.
