Hacking Down Under

The Hackerspace Movement in Australia

Lecturers:    Angus Gratton, projectgus.com @projectgus    Slides [PDF] Notes

Hackerspaces have sprung up all over the world in the past decade, including on the other side of it!

Projectgus.jpg

Angus Gratton is an embedded systems engineer and onetime hackerspace co-founder who lives in Melbourne, Australia. He will give an introduction to the Hackerspace and Makerspace scene in that faraway land. Expect blinking LEDs, robots, autonomous planes, and some discussion of cultural and political differences and local quirks. Even possibly a Nyan-O-Rail!

Lightning Talks

Lightning Talks are an entertaining format of short lectures presenting current ideas, ongoing projects and particularly work-in-progress. The length of a talk is strictly limited to 5 minutes.

You're invited to add your lightning talk below. Don't hesitate to apply even if you feel your presentation isn't perfectly formulated, this isn't expected for such rather spontaneous talks. Chronological order subject to change:

Who? What? Beamer? record?
* metachris: RPIO: Advanced GPIO for the Raspberry Pi
* amir: Neurocid
* Ktsouk: 2014 Summer Hacking Residencies, Volos, Greece
* overflo: Blinkenschild, Blinkenscreen + XBMC, Blinken[Drama]9000, BlinkenMetaLace

Afterparty

Buffet, Wine und Ambient/Downtempo Chillout Musik

Kay tossed in this shouldn't be called afterparty b/c a party might scare people away to join in. Don't expect a "party party" (thank godness!) or drunk ppl, rather 'socializing', often with very nice chit-chat . Don't expect a sophisticated cold buffet and what not (sorry) rather spreads on sandwiches/dark bread with some veggies, mingling & nibbles. Good against premature drop outs of starving visitors. Provision of background music depends solely on the attendance of the one member that owns a transportable music playing device with a 3.5mm jack and who knows how to connect it to the PA. We normally have some bottles of excellent wine but usually lack adequate intact glasses. In light of the many risks and uncertainties you should understand that we cannot assure you that the forward-looking statements contained in this wiki page will be realized.
